In years past, most stores had very simple electronics departments. They sold a few radios, stereos and televisions. The home computer has changed all of that. Today you may find the electronic department to be very complex. Not only will you find those simple electronics, you will find cell phones, home phones, cameras, camcorders, iPods and computers. One way to save money in the electronics department is to buy clearance electronics.
If you are trying to save money by buying electronics on a clearance sale, be sure that you are not buying equipment so old that it is no longer serviceable or cannot be upgraded to do what you need done. Since digital broadcasting has become the norm, due to law changes to free up the airwaves for other purposes, analog TV’s are not a good purchase, even at a clearance price. You will pay as much as $50 for a converter to see that new clearance television, and may not be that happy with what you saved on the clearance sale.
On the other hand, computers may be a good find, especially if you are only looking for a basic machine for going online or for word processing. If some upgrades are necessary, they are made simple with the many plug and play hardware devices available today.
If you do not have to have the newest looking machine, you may also save money. A good reminder here is that like a good book, a computer cannot be judged by its cover. Many times people walk by, take one look at a monitor, and decide that is a good-looking computer.
It has only been a few years since the only color available for computer towers or monitors was off-white. Manufacturers changed to black or silver and there was a sale on the off-white machines. Inside the machines were practically identical, but buyers perceived that the black and silver models were more up to date simply because of the color of the box. What did retailers do? They put the off-white computers on clearance, of course.
Other great deals can be found in electronics clearance sales for kitchen small appliances. Once again, model changes often bring about clearance sales. Kitchen appliances are one area where color changes often, according to the latest fashion trend. Something to keep in mind about these small appliances is if they are going to be stored behind a cupboard door, does it really matter if the color is an exact match? If not, be prepared to save some money.
